UPDATES BELOW Himalayan Balsam is an invasive, non native species that overwhelms our native wild plants. It has really taken hold in some parts along the canal. We are wanting to remove as much of it as we can. We need your help to do that.

It is easy to pull out by the roots and the trick is to remove it before it flowers.

We are organising a ‘Balsam Bash’ on Monday 16 June from 10:00 to 13:00. A group will meet at Canal Head and tackle the stretch from there to Coates Bridge. If there are enough volunteers we can also arrange to cover other sections of the canal.

If you are interested in joining us please contact::

Carole Jones - 07800 693756 or. Steve Ashby – 07955 245193

If you cannot help on Monday please get in touch to be informed about future dates.

UPDATE 19 JUNE

After our very successful Balsam Bash last Monday (thanks again to all our volunteers!) - we are planning 3 more in the next couple of weeks as the HB is coming into flower:

Monday 23 June. 10am at Melbourne Arm. Contact Steve Ashby

Thursday 26 June at East Cottingwith. Time tbc. Contact Carole Jones

Monday 30 June at 10 am - location tbc but near Melbourne. Contact Carole Jones
