Canoeing and paddle boarding

Small boats are welcome to use the Pocklington Canal, but a licence is needed to use canoes, kayaks and paddleboards on this and other canals managed by the Canal & River Trust. Although CRT sells licences via their website they suggest joining Paddle UK. The CRT website has plenty of useful advice.
Canoes, kayaks and paddleboards can be used between Cottingwith Lock and Coates Bridge, but Coates Lock its not operational at. present and weed cutting boats cannot be used beyond the lock. Most visitors start at Church Bridge, Melbourne Arm or Hagg Bridge.

Canoes, etc. can pass under the swing-bridges but as with other canals, they must be carried round the locks.

The PCAS trip boat operates from the north end of the landing stage at the side of Melbourne Arm on Sundays and Bank Holidays, starting from 12:00, so please keep this clear.
